Speakers
Rich VanderMolen from BFI/Waste Management stopped in and described the process of the gathering and recycling of our local trash. He explained that the bankruptcy of a vendor, contracted to install gas wells at the Hillside Landfill, was what caused the terrible situation in the air quality and that it would finally be contained in the coming months. The firm is also trying to “Go Green” with the use of 11% Bio-diesel to run their fleet. Thank you Rich for taking time out of your busy day to speak to our club.
Club Business
We are getting closer to print….If you haven’t seen Jim Mitchell with your ad for our placemats, please do so soon.
Saturday, November 3rd is the date for our Annual Auction. As a reminder, every member is responsible for $100.00 (10 tickets) in ticket sales and $100.00 in donations. Tickets were passed out, so if you did not receive yours please see Chuck Laabs. Donations can be gathered from local businesses, friends, family, co-workers, or anyone else you can think of. Items should be new, gently used, or really cool. Think…would you bid on this if you wanted it? Donations can be in the form of dinners, seminars, gift certificates, vacation spots, airline miles, theater tickets, etc.. See Gary Woll for additional Contribution Forms. Remember this is the one major event of the year. The success of this event is directly related to our charitable giving and with recent state budget cuts our local organizations will need additional support. Please get all ticket money and especially donations in by October 25th so that final details can be completed.
Just a friendly reminder that 2nd quarter membership dues are now due. Please see John Lewis if you have any questions.

Etcetera…
Last month was the lowest attendance percentage (63%) that I have seen in almost two years. Attendance at the regular meetings or via a make-up is a vital part of being a Rotarian. To quote from Rotary Basics,
“Attending weekly club meetings allows members to enjoy their club’s fellowship, enrich their professional and personal knowledge, and meet other business leaders in their community. Many larger communities offer clubs with different meeting times, including early morning, the lunch hour, after work, and evening.
If members miss their own club’s meeting, they’re encouraged to expand their Rotary horizons by attending make-up meetings at any Rotary club in the world — a practice that guarantees Rotarians a warm welcome in communities around the globe. Find meeting places and times in the Official Directory
or through the Club Locator at www.rotary.org. In some cases, Rotarians can make up meetings by participating in a club service project or attending a club board meeting or a Rotaract or Interact club meeting. Members can also make up online at one of several Rotary e-clubs.”
