Speakers
June 7, 2007 - Once again, we enjoyed the update from various representatives of local and international programs which we presented our annual contributions to. The recipients on this day were Operation Safe Child, Ms. Syeda Rizui, Temple Solar Project, West Suburban PADS, and Concordia Katrina Relief.
June 15, 2007 – What a wonderful day it was! The reception at the library was all that we hoped it would be. The pavilion was unveiled without a hitch with many in attendance. Dawson looked absolutely dapper in the traditional garb of his fore fathers and Wilson spoke with excitement of all it took to get our Centennial Project to completion. We hope the community will enjoy our pavilion for many years to come.
The Installation Dinner was just as nice. Assistant District Governor, Bob Giles, installed President Dawson as the 83rd President of our great club. He promises to expand the notoriety of the club at a local, as well as at the district level and expects an exciting year ahead. We know you will move the club forward, reaching up and reaching out to make our cause be heard. We wish you the best of luck as you lead the way!
The evening also included Bob Libka being recognized as a new Paul Harris Fellow bringing our clubs all-time giving to $34,085.56. What a grand way to give back to the world around you. Outgoing President Wilson was also recognized for a job well done, not only by the club, but also by the State Senate! He must know people in high places. Thank you for your leadership.

If you haven’t purchased tickets to the play “HIZZONOR” showing at the Prop Theater in Chicago, there’s still time. You can purchase vouchers for the show until July 31st. The vouchers are $50.00 and the club receives more than half of the voucher price. This would be a great birthday or anniversary gift for your favorite person!
As the Rotary year comes to an end, it is very important that our membership roster is an accurate picture for the coming new year. During the new year the club can receive
special recognition based on the final number at the closing year so if for any reason you
feel you may not want to continue being part of Rotary, please email the club secretary
at jophina@comcast.net indicating your wishes by June 27th and she will make the
corrections to the records.

Etcetera…
Here is a short biography of the man who created our Centennial Sculptor entitled “ Reaching Up Reaching Out”
Richard Hunt (born September 12, 1935) is an internationally renowned sculptor.
He was born in 1935 on Chicago's South Side. From an early age he was interested in the arts, as his mother was an artist. As a young boy, Hunt began to show enthusiasm and talent in artistic disciplines such as drawing and painting, and also sculpture, an interest that grew more and more as he got older. He developed his skills at the Junior School of the Art Institute and later at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Hunt also acquired business sense and awareness of social issues from working for his father in a barber's shop.
Hunt began to experiment with materials and sculpting techniques, influenced heavily by progressive twentieth-century artists. This experimentation garnered critically positive response from the art community, such that Hunt was exhibited at the Artists of Chicago and Vicinity Show and the American Show, where the Museum of Modern Art purchased a piece for its collection. He was the youngest artist to exhibit at the 1962 Seattle World's Fair, a major international survey exhibition of modern art.
Hunt has completed more public sculptures than any other artist in the country. His signature pieces include Jacob's Ladder at the Carter G. Woodson Library in Chicago and Flintlock Fantasy in Detroit. He was appointed by President Lyndon Johnson as one of the first artists to serve on the governing board of the National Endowment for the Arts and he also served on boards of the Smithsonian Institute. Hunt is the recipient of numerous awards and honorary degrees.
Hunt has continued to experiment throughout his successful career, employing a wide range of sculptural techniques. Through his work, Hunt often makes comments on contemporary social and political issues.
